Masa Durgashtami Dates 2022: Durgashtami reminds us of Dussehra. Durgashtami, Maharnavami and Vijayadasami are the three most important days of Dussehra Navratri. In Sanskrit language the word ‘durga’ means ‘undefeatable’ and ‘ashtami’ signifies ‘eight day’ On this day the weapons of Goddess Durga are worshiped and the celebration is known as ‘Astra Puja’. Devotees of Goddess Durga worships the eight forms of Durga Matha. The sacred kalash is placed on a treated as a special item during the worship. There is also a tradition of sacred bathing in worship. Sixteen types of offerings are made to the idol of the goddess. Panchamrit is made from five ingredients including yogurt, milk, honey, cow’s ghee and sugar. The fruits are placed in the puja. Kheer and halwa are offered.   • Devotees provide food and santarpana or dakshina to Brahmins after completing the puja rituals.
